Sound Familiar?
If any of this feels familiar, there may be more options than you've been told. A conversation is the best place to start.
What Happens the Longer You Wait
Continued Bone Deterioration
The jawbone keeps shrinking over time, reducing your options even further.
Higher Treatment Complexity
What could be treated today may require more involved procedures later.
Increasing Cost Over Time
Delayed treatment often means more steps and higher overall expense.
Dentures Become Less Stable
Ongoing bone loss makes removable dentures fit worse every year.
Fewer Solutions Available
As atrophy progresses, even advanced approaches become harder to execute.
Lost Years of Comfort
Every month without stable teeth is a month of meals, smiles, and confidence missed.
Acting sooner keeps your treatment simpler and gets you to a stable smile faster.
Understanding Zygomatic Dental Implants
Zygomatic dental implants are longer titanium posts that anchor directly into the cheekbone (zygomatic bone) instead of the upper jawbone. This makes them an effective solution for patients with severe upper jaw bone loss who have been told they cannot receive traditional implants. Because the cheekbone is naturally dense and resistant to resorption, zygomatic implants provide a strong, reliable foundation for a full arch of fixed replacement teeth, all without requiring bone grafts or sinus lift procedures.
At Icon Dental Implant Center, we plan every zygomatic implant case using CBCT 3D imaging for precise placement and predictable results. Zygomatic dental implants in Southfield, MI give patients with significant bone loss a path to permanent teeth that many thought wasn’t possible. Our in-house lab and digital workflow allow us to coordinate every step of treatment, from surgical planning to final restoration, under one roof.

What to Expect During Zygomatic Dental Implant Treatment
Consultation and 3D Planning
Your first visit begins with a thorough evaluation, including CBCT 3D imaging that maps the bone structure of your upper jaw and cheekbone in full detail. You'll sit down with your care team to review findings, discuss goals, and understand exactly what treatment involves. This is where your personalized plan takes shape.
Preparing for Treatment Day
Before your procedure, we use your 3D scans and digital models to plan every angle and position of each implant. Our in-house lab prepares your temporary teeth in advance so they're ready the same day. You'll receive clear pre-operative instructions and sedation options tailored to your comfort level.
Implant Placement and Same-Day Teeth
On the day of treatment, you'll be comfortably sedated while your zygomatic implants are precisely placed into the cheekbone. Because the cheekbone provides immediate stability, a temporary set of fixed teeth is typically attached during the same visit. Most patients leave with a full, functional smile that day.
Healing and Integration
Over the next several months, the implants gradually fuse with the cheekbone through a natural bonding process called osseointegration (where titanium integrates with living bone). During this time, you'll wear your temporary teeth and attend scheduled follow-up visits so we can monitor healing and make any needed adjustments.
Final Restoration
Once full integration is confirmed, your permanent restoration is crafted in our on-site lab and placed. These final teeth are designed to match your facial features and bite perfectly. You'll leave with a complete, permanent smile built to last.

What Recovery Looks Like After Zygomatic Dental Implants
First 24 to 48 Hours
Expect mild swelling and some bruising around your cheeks and upper jaw, which is a normal part of healing. Rest is encouraged, and prescribed medication will help manage any discomfort. Stick to cool, soft foods and keep your head elevated when resting. Most patients describe this period as far more comfortable than they anticipated.
First 1 to 2 Weeks
Swelling gradually decreases and you'll start feeling more like yourself. Soft foods remain the priority, but your temporary teeth are fully functional for everyday speaking and light eating. Follow-up visits during this window allow us to monitor your progress and answer any questions that come up.
Long-Term Healing
Over the next three to six months, the implants fully bond with the cheekbone. During this time, you'll continue wearing your temporary teeth and attend periodic check-ins. Most patients return to their full routine within the first few weeks, with the integration process happening quietly in the background.
